About the project

The Winter King is a four-scene rescore exploring grief, exile, intimacy and ritual through a shared musical world. Combining live musicians with MIDI orchestration, electronic textures and my own recorded vocals, I created a hybrid score that moves between intimate, atmospheric moments and larger cinematic gestures while maintaining a cohesive musical identity.

I began with a simple three-note motif, first introduced through low strings, electronic bass and war drums. Across the four scenes, I reshaped the musical language through changes in orchestration, texture and scale — moving from the darker, restrained sound of Arthur’s return and exile toward the warmer and more ritualistic world of Avalon. The score combines live-recorded musicians with MIDI elements, electronic textures and my own vocals. For the final ceremony, layered voices, rhythmic strings, brass and percussion expand the sound into something more ceremonial and immersive. I composed and orchestrated the score, conducted the recording sessions, performed the vocals, and handled the production and final mix.
