About the project
HEY U is a pop-rock song written in response to the pressure of social media and the way online judgement can affect confidence and self-image. The song encourages young women to embrace who they are, support one another, and be confident in their own choices.
I used muted guitar strumming and strong upbeat accents to establish the track’s energetic character from the intro. Multiple drum samples were layered to build a punchy, dynamic groove, with different frequency treatments used to create contrast between the kick sounds. The arrangement also incorporates processed vocal cuts and high-register keyboard textures, particularly around the breakdown and second verse, introducing additional pop and electronic elements while maintaining the song’s rock foundation.
